Newspaper evolution

To explain the newspaper evolution is important to know what the mass media is.
The mass media is maybe the most important clue that has changed the way to precede the information. It is a set of elements that trough them the information is reported massively to the society. It is the way trough which the information is collected, processed and communicated.

The first method of communication that born in the society is the capacity to remember histories that old generations told, and those histories are remembered and retold to the new generations. It was an oral method.

In that oral stage, people have improved in the society and in language. There was a shift when the man created the writing and the media that endure: in that way it appears the writing and printing. The newspaper starts to be very used in the society, everyday news were explained for them in the mass media.

The new technologies development affected and affect nowadays to all the mass media. Computing and the Internet have improved and optimized the production process and the mode of transmission of news.

Is in that decade when the computer becomes the owner of the industrial production of paper. Also nowadays is the same in electronic newsrooms, conducting plates for printing, etc. that is all controlled by the computer.

New instruments have born to obtain information from electronic mail, satellite signals, cell phones and digital cameras among other resources have transformed the traditional print media.


The digital newspaper like an interactive tool

Nowadays, in our society there is the traditional newspaper and the digital newspaper. The digital newspaper is characterized by his interactivity with the users. We talk about interactivity because it offers a few interactive contents, that is to say, multimedia contents (images, videos, texts…) that allow that the reader should participate more actively.

In the digital newspaper we can find interactive tools as the hypertext (links). A digital newspaper has more text contents than multimedia contents. These contents update in relation to when the news happens. So, the structure of a digital newspaper is hierarchic because the contents are arranged from a bigger importance to a minor importance.

The digital newspaper presents readers' letters, e-mails of contact, forums, surveys and interviews. In a digital newspaper we can find access to versions of the diary printed in format PDF. A good thing of the digital newspaper it is that it can store a lot of information whereas the traditional not; and something bad is that the reader has few opportunities to take part in the production of the news.


Advantages and disadvantages of the digital newspaper

The online newspaper has many advantages over traditional newspaper. First of all we should note that online newspapers add a lot of tools that add information to the news. The tools give to the reader more information and understanding of the news. The traditional newspaper only has texts and some images, the online newspaper add videos, surveys, lector’s comments, etc. It makes easier the act of read the newspaper.

Another advantage is the price. Read the newspaper online means not to pay anything. However, we have to pay some money to read a traditional newspaper. So this is another factor to choose the online newspaper.

The next advantage is the new attitude of the lectors. They can give their opinion and discuss her point of view with the other lectors. It’s another think that traditional newspaper can’t offer.

Another factor is the convenience. It’s more convenient to choose what you want to read with a click of your mouse than search the content you want to read on the pages of the newspaper. However stay a lot of hours in front of the screen is bad for our eyes.

THE NEWS ON THE IPHONE AND THE FUTURE OF JOURNALISM

Today i have watched some videos on youtube about iphone. I don't have anyone but I was interested about how to know the news through the iphone. This video explains in a brief way how to know all the news and how to participate. And it's so easy: only with your finger you can read all the actuallity and be informed about everything. You only have to write about what you want to know.

You can participate too. You can give to them all the information you want. For example, if you take some videos or some photos about an interesting event, you can send it to them. It means that the journalists have more material to work his news. Personally, I think it's so interesting, because the journalists can contrast the information and reach more tools in order to make the reader understand everything easier. But on the other hand, the readers are in risk, because they have a lot of information about the same thing and sometimes it's difficult to select the correct information.

This makes appear a new dilemma, because if citizens can send material about the news and can make their own texts, the role of the journalist is in danger. Some people believe that journalists will disappear in a future, and blogs and social networks will serve to inform the population. I hope these people are wrong, because I believe that citizens don't have the same ability to report as a professional who has a university degree.

    I don’t like so much tactile technologies because I always think that the technologies that function with buttons are better than the technologies that have a tactile function.
    Nevertheless, a tactile technology contributes to take a major interactivity with users, and the new iPhone would be a clear example of it.

    This video shows that the form which you see the news is going to change because now you can see the news that you like when you want and where you want, only with a finger touch you can have the possibility to see all the recent news and to be informed about everything in every moment. So that contributes to a better user participation.

    With the new iPhone we can see photos, send them, and also inform our friends of any new event that have happened.

    But the fact that the user can do everything and even thought can create the information can be a risk for the journalists, considering that it is said that the traditional journalism will disappear in a future and that those who will spread this information will be the same journalists but in the digital way.

    The progress of new technologies has led to much debate in the society, some are against and some in favor.
    Always is questioned whether digital media will lead to forget the traditional media; always is thought in a negative way in this aspect and therefore generate a lot of debates.

    This video of Youtube is a sample of the most positive side of this controversial issue.
    It shows us a new technology, as it’s the Iphone that has been a boom for the society, actually is the latest in the technological marketplace.

    The best of all of this is that news written in the traditional press can be visited by Iphone through Internet, only with a click we can have access to all of these information that we need.
    Traditional media is not dead, just the technology is inevitably in progress and thanks to this technology we can access much more easily to this traditional medium.

    Iris! I prefer the mobiles with buttons too. The last mobile I had was a LG with a tactile keyboard, and when it was 6 months I had to change it because it broke the touch system. Now I have a blackberry and I would never change it. With it I can have similar aplications as the Iphone and I can search the news too.

    Another reason for choose the mobiles with buttons is the velocity that I have when I'm writing, because when you write fast with a touch system, sometimes it forget some letters and you have to go back and rewrite the word. It makes you spend more time writing a message than a buttons system.

    On the other hand, I disagree with what you said about the journalism. I don't think that the journalism will die because of the interactivity. First of all, the interactivity allows the audience to add information about somethings, like photos of some event or the testimony. But the important news are said by the professionals of the comunication, so the journalism will not desappear because of the interactivity.
